Timothy C. Wu

Timothy C. Wu is chief strategy officer for the Community Technology Foundation (CTF). Prior to joining CTF, he served as the deputy director and program director of the September 11 Fund, managing the distribution of over $500 million in disaster relief assistance.

Mr. Wu's involvement in HIV/AIDS issues spans nearly 20 years. As a journalist with CBS national news in the mid-1980s, he worked on early coverage of the epidemic. Upon moving to San Francisco in 1992, he became involved with numerous organizations in a professional and volunteer capacity, including Continuum HIV Day Services; Project Inform; the CompassPoint Nonprofit Services team that wrote the San Francisco Ryan White CARE Act AIDS Prevention Plan; Project Open Hand; the API Wellness Center; New Leaf; National AIDS Memorial Grove; AIDS Legal Referral Panel; and Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS.

As a donor and fundraiser, Mr. Wu is particularly proud of his decade-long collaborative work with former amfAR board member Ambassador James Hormel, with whom he developed the Small Change Foundation. They have made hundreds of grants to local, national, and international HIV/AIDS agencies such as Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Food and Friends, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, the amfAR MSM project, the AIDS Health Project, and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. Mr. Wu also serves on the boards of numerous cultural institutions in the Bay Area. He is a summa cum laude graduate of Princeton University and holds a J.D. (cum laude) from Harvard Law School.
