Howard and Cindy Rachofsky

2009 New York Gala Honorees

RachofskyHoward and Cindy Rachofsky are among the most widely known collectors of contemporary art in America and they are renowned in Dallas for their active and generous philanthropy. Since 1999, they have hosted the TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art benefit in their Richard Meier-designed home. This black-tie dinner and art auction jointly benefits amfAR and the Dallas Museum of Art and has become one of the most successful charity events in the country, raising $21 million in the last decade.

The Rachofskys’ work with amfAR is only a small part of their philanthropic efforts. Howard is a member of the boards of the Dia Art Foundation in New York, the Dallas Symphony Association, and the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts, among others, while Cindy serves on the board of the Dallas Museum of Art and the Episcopal School of Dallas.

The Rachofskys received the Skowhegan Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney Award in 2005 for outstanding philanthropy in the arts. Howard was also honored that year with the prestigious TACA Silver Cup Award for patrons of the visual and performing arts in Dallas.

The Rachofskys’ commitment to amfAR and its mission will continue with the eleventh TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art, to be held on October 24, 2009.
