XV International AIDS Conference: Schedule of TREAT Asia Events
July 2004–At the XV International AIDS Conference in Bangkok in July, TREAT Asia will participate in a number of key ways. Please join us.
11–16 July: TREAT Asia Booth, Exhibit Hall, Stand 158
Throughout the conference, the TREAT Asia booth will be stocked with information and copies of the TREAT Asia Report, amfAR’s Treatment Insider (published in English, Spanish, French, and Chinese), and the amfAR Global Link. Staff will be on hand to answer questions about TREAT Asia and its activities in the region.
Monday, 12 July: Response to triple combination antiretroviral treatment in patients from Asia-Pacific: an analysis of retrospective data from the TREAT Asia HIV/AIDS Observational Database, IMPACT Exhibition Center, Hall 3, Track C, 12:00–14:00
This poster presentation will include data from more than 1,800 patients around the region and will offer valuable insight into the effectiveness and tolerance of highly active antiretroviral therapy among patients in Asia.
Tuesday, 13 July: Understanding the HIV Epidemic in Asia: A Presentation on the TREAT Asia HIV/AIDS Observational Database (TAHOD)
Room A, Impact Arena, 18:00–20:00
The TREAT Asia HIV/AIDS Observational Database is the first database in Asia to track patients through stages of disease, treatment, side effects, drug resistance, and treatment failure. Data from the database will provide the most robust look yet at treatment in the region.

Monday, 12 July: Women & HIV: Research Directions, Room D, 18:00–20:00
amfAR’s Vice President for Public Policy, Dr. Judith Auerbach, will moderate a panel discussion with leaders from funding organizations and advocacy groups on the use of antiretroviral therapy to prevent infection in women. The panel will address the social problems that put women at greater risk for HIV infection and the needs of women in conflict and post-conflict settings.

Asian premiere of Robert Bilheimer’s acclaimed documentary about the AIDS epidemic around the world, inspired by the life and writing of amfAR Board member Jonathan Mann.
Tuesday, 13 July: Toward an HIV-Free Generation, Room J, 20:15–22:15
Dr. Judith Auerbach, amfAR’s Vice President for Public Policy, will give a keynote presentation at this session, which examines practical lessons from successful programs aimed at reducing HIV infection rates among young people.
Wednesday, 14 July: Moving Mountains: The Race to Treat Global AIDS

Kevin Frost, amfAR’s Vice President, Clinical Research and Prevention Programs, and Director, TREAT Asia, moderates a panel discussion on the slow and steady path to treatment access, featuring clinicians and policy makers including Paul Farmer from Haiti’s Partners in Health, Stephen Lewis, UN Special Envoy on AIDS for Africa, and Jim Kim, Director of the WHO’s 3x5 HIV Program.
Also featured at this panel will be the writings of Anne-christine d’Adesky, frequent contributor to amfAR’s Treatment Insider. d’Adesky’s new book of essays, Moving Mountains is available for purchase at the amfAR booth #158 in the exhibit hall.
