YORK, March 14, 2012—amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, on Wednesday
applauded the selection of Grant Colfax, M.D., to be the next director of the
Office of National AIDS Policy (ONAP).
Colfax,
the director of HIV prevention and research at the San Francisco Department of
Public Health, has long been a national leader in HIV/AIDS prevention. Colfax
is also a clinician at the University of California’s Positive Health Program, where
he works with people living with HIV/AIDS and those who are at high risk of
infection.
“Grant
Colfax’s strong background in HIV/AIDS prevention, especially among at-risk
populations, makes him an ideal choice to lead the nation’s efforts to stop the
spread of HIV/AIDS,” said amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost. “Dr. Colfax’s
groundbreaking work in San Francisco has prepared him well to lead the White
House effort to bring down HIV incidence, increase rates of testing and
treatment, and, we hope, change the face of the domestic epidemic.”
