ACATA Member Honored for Activism

 

July 2006—Thomas Zhang, a member of the Asian Community for AIDS Treatment and Advocacy (ACATA), has been honored with the Keith D. Cylar Award for Domestic and Global AIDS Activism by the US AIDS organization Housing Works. Zhang, who hails from Guangzhou, China, was recognized for “braving stigma and government persecution” to step forward publicly about living with HIV. He was also hailed for founding a web site for people with HIV/AIDS, launching the advocacy group AIDS Care China, and convening a conference of positive people from throughout China. The award was presented at a reception on 25 April co-sponsored by Housing Works and New York Senator Hillary Clinton.
