HIV-NAT Hosts Bangkok Symposium on HIV Medicine

April 2004—The HIV Netherlands Australia Thailand Research Collaboration (HIV-NAT) held its 7th Bangkok Symposium on HIV Medicine at Bangkok’s Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, January 14–16.

TREAT Asia co-sponsored the Symposium, which attracted more than 600 participants from all over Asia. Their main objective was to get up-to-date information on treatment and new developments in the management of patients with HIV infection.

The three-day conference featured many luminaries in the area of HIV medicine including Drs. Bernard Hirschel, Joep Lange, and Tim Brown. Drs. David Cooper, Praphan Phanuphak, and Greg Dore, active members of the TREAT Asia network, facilitated discussions and spoke at the Symposium.

Topics ranged from HAART in Adults and Children, Hepatitis and HIV Co-infection, and Vaccines to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Presentations were made in the mornings with the afternoons reserved for skills building workshops.

Powerpoint presentations from the Symposium are available online at www.bangkoksymposium.org.
