Biography:

Dr. Annette Sohn joined amfAR’s staff as vice president and director of TREAT Asia in September 2008. In this capacity, she leads a staff of 17 based in amfAR’s Bangkok, Thailand, office.

A highly regarded pediatrician and researcher with extensive experience in the Asia region, Dr. Sohn directs a program integrating HIV and co-infection research among children, adolescents, and adults with related activities around community advocacy and training. She chairs the Executive Committee of the US National Institutes of Health’s IeDEA global cohort consortium (International Epidemiology Databases to Evaluate AIDS), and is a member of the National Advisory Child Health and Human Development Council of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

Dr. Sohn is a member of the World Health Organization’s Strategic and Technical Advisory Committee on HIV and Viral Hepatitis (STAC HIV-HEP) and Global Validation Advisory Committee (GVAC) on Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV and Syphilis. She is on the Program Committee of the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) and the Organizing Committee of the Asia Pacific AIDS and Co-infections Conference (APACC), and is a co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the International AIDS Society.

She retains an appointment as an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco.
